Vyn Guest Bedroom Manual
Access control
To open the front gate, you receive a remote control that you can leave in your vehicle for the duration of your stay. The gate will close automatically afterwards or you can close it by pressing the button again.
To enable you to leave and enter the house and your room without a key, we have set up a facial recognition system. If you don’t want this, you can also use a key. Of course, we will delete your data when you move out.
To enter the grounds via the back gate you will need a PIN. Please ask us for the current one, as we change it regularly for security reasons.
Activities
Cape Peninsula Tour
Feel free to ask us about it. Depending on the season and the day of the week, there are various possibilities. You should definitely plan a whole day. Already on the way to the national park, there are various stops and in the park you can discover beautiful landscapes next to the actual Cape of Good Hope, various beaches and you can go for hikes along the water and inland between the two coasts. You will also want to make at least a few photo stops on the way back.
Helicopter flights
We are happy to book you a helicopter flight. The helicopter terminal is located at the north-western end of the Waterfront. There are different sightseeing flights on offer – along the Atlantic seaboard until Bakoven, to Hout Bay, to Noordhoek and back via Contantia, over Table Bay to Robben Island and once around the Cape Peninsula. You can either book as a private flight, only for your party or more cost-effective as a shared flight together with other passengers.
Hiking
Feel free to contact us for information on the various hikes – whether on your own or guided. Some of my favourite hikes have been described on my blog.
Markets
We can especially recommend the Oranjezicht City Market, the Neighbourgoods Market in Woodstock or the Hout Bay Harbour Market right here.
We can especially recommend the Oranjezicht City Farm Market next to the V&A Waterfront, the Neighbourgoods Market at the Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock or the Hout Bay Harbour Market right here. They take place primarily at weekends. In summer, the Oranjezicht City Farm Market is also open one evening a week.
Paragliding
You can take a tandem flight with spectacular views from Signal Hill in the right wind and weather conditions. Depending on the thermal you will land at Sea Point earlier or later and are driven back to your car park. Feel free to ask us about it, we are happy to book it for you.
Riding
On the beach in Noordhoek there are various providers who offer horseback riding for beginners to experienced riders.
Sunset Cruise
A sunset cruise on a catamaran in Table Bay heading weather depending either towards Clifton or Blauwberg, passing Robben Island, enjoying the sunset with Table Mountain and the Twelve Apostles in the background is a breathtaking experience. The boat is based at the pier in the V&A Waterfront, near the Red Clock Tower.
Sightseeing/cultural activities
The inner city of Cape Town offers various historical buildings as well as the Company’s Garden, which the first settlers laid out here. In addition, there are various museums that show African art – from historical to contemporary. Particularly worth mentioning are the District Six Museum and the Zeitz Mocaa – not least because of its extraordinary architecture.
A visit to the former prison island Robben Island is also a possibility to spend half a day in an informative way. Feel free to contact us – there are pros and cons here.
The Waterfront with its various shops, restaurants, Ferris wheel and the African flair exuded by the various music groups is another attraction you probably won’t want to miss.
Table Mountain
Of course, a visit to Table Mountain is a must. The views from the top give you a good overview of the entire city and are – by the way – simply magnificent. Alternatively, you can take the cableway or the more athletic can hike up one of the beautiful routes. Feel free to ask us about it. We have already tried several of them.
It is best to buy tickets for the cableway online in advance. There is also the option of buying fast track tickets for an additional charge. Otherwise, I would recommend the afternoon hours, especially in high season. The waiting times are usually much shorter then.
Those who shy away from the strenuous climb can take an easy 30-45 minute hike on top of Table Mountain to Maclear’s Beacon, the highest point. It takes you through an embrasure to the Back Table, where you can walk without any incline, except for a small climb at the end. You will also get a nice impression of the beautiful vegetation that prevails up there. On the way there you can stay in the interior and on the way back you can walk along the edge. Here you can take spectacular photos.
We will be happy to provide you with a hiking map.
Winetasting
How about a winetasting, e.g. at Constantia Glen, just behind Constantia Nek, with a dreamlike view? Or in Noordhoek at Cape Point Vineyard with a no less spectacular view?
Aircon/cooling and heating
Use the Mode button to select cooling or heating, the “temerature “Temp.”-button to select the desired temperature and the On/Off button to switch it on. Please note that it can take up to 5 minutes before the aircon becomes noticeably active in the room, as the air is first cooled or warmed to the appropriate temperature at the outdoor unit.
Alarm system
Our alarm system is quite extensive – not because we think it’s necessary, but because we want you to feel absolutely safe. From sunrise to sunset, our cameras are monitored by a security company. For example, we have infrared cameras and those that can recognise people with the help of artificial intelligence. If they detect anything suspicious in the dark, additional spotlights come on, the security guards can watch the suspicious persons and also inform them over the loudspeakers that they are being watched and should leave the premises as quickly as possible.
The electric fence is an additional barrier for potential burglars. It is on all the time. Please be careful here and do not touch it.
Via so-called curtain lines in the outdoor area there is another security line which we activate at night. Therefore, we ask you to stay in the garden after sunset only in the pool area or talk to us so that we deactivate these sensors.
In addition, you will find a panic button right next to your bed. If you press it, an armed security company will arrive in a few minutes.
Blanket and alternative pillows
In each room there is a hygienically wrapped washed blanket for additional use. In each bed you will find a medium soft and a medium firm pillow. If you need a softer pillow, please let us know. We have other alternative pillows in stock.
Bluetooth-loudspeaker
You can, if you wish, connect your music streaming app on your mobile phone to the Bose Revolve Bluetooth speaker located in your room.
Switch it on to do this. The flashing blue light indicates that Bluetooth is activated. If this is not the case, press the Bluetooth button for 3 seconds. Then switch on the Bluetooth function on the phone and pair the devices with each other.
Breakfast
Breakfast is served from 8:30 till 10:30. Kindly let us know if there are any allergies or food intolerances we should be aware of.
Coffee machine/Nespresso
For breakfast and in the afternoon from 2pm to 4pm, we will be happy to provide you with delicious coffee from our La Marzocco coffee machine. Of course, we also have a selection of teas and hot chocolate. If you would like something hot to drink during the rest of the day, you will find a Nespresso machine and a small selection of coffee capsules in each suite, as well as a kettle, tea bags and hot chocolate. Please make sure that the capsules are inserted at a slight angle from the Nespresso machine’s locking system, then operation is easy.

Insect repellents
For insect repellent, we have some products in stock for internal air and for spraying on the skin. Please let us know if you need them.
Laundry service
If necessary, we will wash and iron your clothes. You will find a laundry bag marked accordingly in the top drawer of your wardrobe as well as a price list. Please place the bag in your room so that it is clearly visible and we can take care of the laundry. We need 1-2 days for this.

Tips
We are often asked how much tipping is appropriate for our staff. They are happy about any gratuity. As a guideline, we would say R50-100 per night per room.
If you like, you can give it to them directly or put it in the tip box we have in the office. We will then divide it fairly among everyone once a month.
Towels and bed linen
We strive to be sustainable in our use of water and electricity. Of course, we will wash your bed linen and towels every 3 days if you do not make any changes. Just put your towels to be washed on the floor and give us a short message regarding your bed linen.
